We had someone at work die recently and the memorial/celebration of the person's life is being held this week. People are asked to wear items of clothing and jewelry reminiscent of the deceased's personal style, and write on the whiteboard their favorite memories of the person, or their favorite [name]-isms.

This got me thinking. It's a shame she won't be there to hear and see this. So in that spirit, if you'd like to share, I'd love to read what you'll say about me when I'm gone, good or bad. It's always difficult to see yourself how others see you. I'd love to know what impression you have of me, whether you know me in person or not. If you were to wear something reminiscent of me, what would it be? What would you write on the whiteboard?

Overheard in the erbie-llanughty household:

Upon returning from being out:
LL in the kitchen: "Edgar, do you want to wash your hands?"
Edgar in the living room [sing-song voice]: "No-ooh"
Erb in the kitchen: *giggles*
LL: "Come here, it's time to wash your hands."
Edgar [sing-song voice]: "No-ooh"
Erb: *snickers*
LL: "[Edgar's real name], are you mocking me?"
Edgar [sing-song voice]: "Ye-ess!"

In the car:
Edgar, after wrapping up her doll in her jacket: "Where the dolly go?"
*pats the doll in the jacket*
Edgar: "Dolly sleeping"
*big sigh* "[Edgar's real name] tired."

Edgar singing:
"Kinkle kinkle yittah TAR
how I wun-nah what [beat] ARE!
Uppa budda worsoh HIGH
Yighta dymah [beat] KIGH!
kinkle kinkle yittah TAR
how I wun-nah what [beat] ARE!

More singing:
A B C D E F G
8 I J K na-na na-na GEE
koo ahh S! D [beat] V!
duhboh [beat] eck
Y [beat] Z!
nahmah no-da A B C!
nah tye [beat beat] sing [beat] ME!

Erbie sings the Wheels on the Bus, with the last verse being the Daddies on the bus go I Love You.
Edgar: "Moh? Daddy I yuv you?"
Erbie sings the last verse again.
Edgar: "Moh? Daddy I yuv you?" [sings] "Daddy, I yuv you, you yuv me, da da da da fa-mi-yee!"

There's a little little sandwich shop near the hospital where Edgar was born and was incarcerated for two months that sells the yummiest pannini sandwiches I've ever had. I ate there almost daily when Edgar was in the hospital. They are also right next door to a Staples. I needed to go get a shredder at lunch today, so I ordered a sandwich. So yummy! And also, just like smells, tastes can bring you back to a moment in time. Eating that sandwich brought back the feeling of Edgar being in the hospital and my daily schedule visiting her, pumping, going back to the NICU, getting lunch, pumping again, going back to the NICU.

And she will be two years old in less than two weeks. Hard to believe it's been that long. Eating that sandwich and drinking that iced tea was so familiar and made it seem like I'd be going right up to the NICU instead of coming back to work.
