Goat's Rue = non-surgical boob job

I'm taking an herb called Goat's Rue to help with extracting enough milk from my breasts to feed my baby when I'm at work and she's at daycare. One of the things it's used for is to increase breast tissue in adoptive mothers so that they can nurse their adopted babies without their bodies having had the hormonal help of a pregnancy. I don't really care about the size increasing aspect. I'd rather mine weren't bigger, but I'm encouraged by the increase in output.

So, I've been noticing an increase in the chestal region the last week or so. [livejournal.com profile] llnaughty happened upon me the other day when I had just gotten out of the shower, did a double take, and then his eyes bugged out of his head, tongue lolled to the side like a bassett hound, eyes glazed over and just stood there, blocking my egress from the bathroom.

So now, I can't go around with no top on in the house because all three other members of my household stare longingly at my chest. Freaks!

Which is all to say: Boobies!

So, wait, will it make your boobs bigger and not have you also spurting milk all over the place?!?!?

[identity profile] llnaughty.livejournal.com 2007-01-23 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
why? would you take it? ;)

i believe it won't cause you to lactate without you trying to nurse and bring on lactation. so feel free to take it but don't let dh spend too much time with the twins while you're on it. ;)

Um, if there's even the slightest chance of spurting milk, um, NO!

(if there weren't, then HELL YES!)

I'm not sure. I think you have to actively stimulate the nipples and apply suction to them, like a baby, or a pump, in order to actually induce lactation. Even with all that, I'm not exactly spurting milk all over the place. Though I did squirt [livejournal.com profile] llnaughty in the eye the other day when showing him how I can hand express. ;)

Hahahahahha!!

Hmmmm.

[identity profile] erbie.livejournal.com 2007-01-23 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
And it's reversible. If you did start having a bit of milk, it wouldn't be much and it would go away when you stopped taking the herb. At least in theory. :-D

W/ my luck I'd go into overdrive and have to become a wet nurse!

First: I love that you used "chestal region"

Second: I was wondering why my alarm was going off.

Third: Well, this message I'll send to llnaughty, in pervrivate.

I've become so much more appreciative of boobies in the last 13 months. But yeah, sometimes appreciation can be too much of a good thing. Julia gets waaaaaaaaay too excited when I change, even if she's just eaten.

Edgar does as well. Any time she sees them, she flaps and squeals.

Bob even still wants to put her head on them and stare lovingly at them. Silly kid.

RUN, BOY! RUN FOR THE HILLS!

I think I'll throw up now. Not sure why, but somehow a man lactating seems......wrong. It's like a man with a vagina or something.

As creepy as that is, it's more amazing. The human body is just incredible!

I wish I'd known about Goat's Rue when I was trying to nurse my preemie. I tried everything and nothing really worked. I suppose the fact that I nearly died during delivery had something to do with the inadequate supply, but it was a tremendous loss to me. To have had such a hard time with the pregnancy and then to struggle to provide for an tiny ill infant was incredibly difficult for me.

[identity profile] erbie.livejournal.com 2007-01-23 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm wishing I had tried it six months ago. I wanted to try everything else first and with giving them time to work, here I am at 9 months post partum and less chance for it to work. It does work, but not to the degree I'd like. I'm two weeks away from one bottle of formula a day, so I'm hoping I can squeak out an additional three ounces per day with this.

And yeah, massive blood loss does put a damper on the ability to make milk. You have to have blood to make milk. This is another reason I should've taken Goat's Rue back in April. I sure can relate to your feelings on the matter, as I'm sure you know.

I know you can, and I appreciate that. There are some things that are hard to understand unless you've struggled with them yourself. *hug*
